Floor coatings for a working auto shop.

Service bays, lifts, tool storage, and vehicle movement all belong in the floor plan. Tell us how your shop operates so the coating discussion starts with your working day.

Map the work before the floor

Mark the bays you want coated and the routes that must remain accessible. Include lifts, fixed machinery, drains, office entrances, and storage areas. Explain whether the shop can close or needs the work divided into phases.

Share your preferred work window and the earliest time vehicles need to return. Those are planning requirements; the selected coating and site conditions determine the final schedule.

Discuss the demands of each bay

List the fluids, cleaners, equipment, and traffic the floor encounters. Chemical resistance, texture, and maintenance depend on the complete coating system. A glossy photo alone cannot establish suitability for an active repair bay.

  • Vehicle paths and turning areas
  • Lift bases, joints, drains, and damaged concrete
  • Oil staining or previous floor coatings
  • Cleaning products and the cleaning equipment you use

Choose the appearance and texture together

Solid colors can make the floor visually simple. A flake blend adds pattern; metallic finishes can provide a more decorative treatment in customer-facing areas. Consider separate needs in the workshop, reception, and display space.

Ask about wet conditions and how the chosen surface will be cleaned. Agree on samples and maintenance instructions before installation.

Auto shop questions

Can the work be phased around operating bays?

Include that requirement in your request. Access, preparation, boundaries, and curing must be assessed before a phased schedule can be confirmed.

Will every coating resist every shop fluid?

No. Identify the actual substances and exposures in your shop so the proposed system can be checked against its manufacturer’s guidance.

Should lifts and machinery be moved?

Identify anything fixed in place when you request an estimate. Agree on what moves, who moves it, and how edges and equipment bases will be treated in the written scope.
